The Beautiful Blogger Award Tag

Thank you so much to Ashley Rose from Dame de Rose for nominating me for The Beautiful Blogger Award! It is an honor and I really have been enjoying reading others’ fun facts about themselves as part of the tag.

1. I’m left-handed, but right-footed.
I’m not really quite sure if it’s true that the 10% of people who are southpaws are really more artistic and strong at abstract thinking, but I have found that throughout my life I’ve had more of an aptitude for creative endeavors.

2. I can play the flute, piccolo, recorder, harmonica, and ukulele. And a few chords on the guitar.
An odd mix of instruments and none of them I’ve become exceedingly skilled in. The moment I decided to learn each was always rather spontaneous. I’d love to become more profficient at playing a select few instruments including the piano, violin, and perhaps I shall pick up my flute again.

3. Throughout my school years, I rarely studied.
I formed an awful habit of never studying really. My thinking was that if I able to pass without it, why not continue being lazy. I think it stemmed from me being a quick learner and naturally apt at learning early on, and I took that for granted.

I always did the bare minimum of what was required and never challenged myself like I should have. I still did well, but who knows what I could’ve done if I had been more dilligent in my studies and tried to excell further?

4. I’ve always been passionate about writing.
When I was in my youth, I had different phases, finnicky fads. At one point, I had wanted to be an Olympic gymnast. A master of all the known martial arts. A musician. A lawyer. A phsychologist.

I was quick to become engaged in an idea, but even faster my interest faded out. However, writing has been something that has remained constant in my life.

5. When I was five, my favorite color was clear.
I thought I was so clever at the time, but now I cringe and laugh at the thought. It definitely was unique and a contrast to the common pinks, blues, and reds that most said.

6. I was underweight and under 5 feet until the eighth grade.
I’ve always had a slight frame and when I was younger, I was used to being the shortest in my class. It was rather annoying because often my adolescent classmates acted as if my size was a measure of my competence.

It didn’t bother me as much in middle school, as the one I went to had predominantly shorter students in it and I was less self-conscious. And now, I’m grateful for my fast metabolism.

7. I never played with toys as a child.
This was mostly because they never interested me. I was often in my own head and in my vast collection of journals. Even before I knew how to write, I was scribbling down something.

I was often writing stories, drawing, and even doing math. I found in one entry, what appeared to be algebra with hearts and stars in place of the traditionally used variables.

I also never got into Disney princesses. They seemed to weak and unrealistic to me as an impressionable child. At Disneyland, I steered clear of the actors that come around dressed as Disney princesses and avoided them at all cost.

I don’t quite recall this however, my Mom did tell me that I had a fondness for Belle when I was very young. She told me that I had said I liked her because she enjoyed reading.

I was quite the avid reader myself, first picking up Pride & Prejudice and fourth grade and completeing Little Women and The Little House on the Prairie series in third grade.

Another one of the reasons why is that as a child, I had a vivid nightmare that evil Barbies had been coming out of my closet with blinking red eyes…then they walked up into my ceiling and became spiders. Needless to say, after that I had my mother get rid of all of my dolls.

I hope you enjoyed learning about me and my interesting childhood. Now for my turn to tag others!

  2. I can relate to going in and out of phases, only turning out be half good at everything haha
I’m a very fast learner, but I’m also the most settling person in the world. Meaning, if I see that I have a talent that I can develop further and become pro at, I get content by the thought and move on to learn something new. A great example would be when I started jogging, my goal was 10km, but then when I managed to run 8km straight, I was like “8km, that’s technically 10!…” So I stopped with the thought that I could’ve run 10km easy if I wanted to to, but my desire to further train had declined lol And I had no plans on spending money to run an actual marathon 😛

    • My brother is able to become solely dedicated to one goal for a contagious period of time. Whether it was karate for five years, or baseball for a decade. I wish that I had that ability.

That’s why I didn’t hate school like other kids, because it provided structure to my otherwise leisure and dawdling self. It helped me to be productive and find motivation.

  4. Loved this post and learning more about you! I feel I was probably a similar child- I never ever studied or even did homework but was still a solid B-/C+ student… If only I had applied myself! I was also an avid reader and writer. One of my kids loves to read and I hope it continues as he gets older :).

  5. Thanks for sharing! Did you do gymnastics at all? I did it from 2nd grade to high school and stopped.
And I’ve always been an avid reader and write as well. I quit my career in science and research to pursue my writing dream two years ago. I’ve always written on and off, mostly writing short stories. Now after so much trial and error, I’m learning the fundamentals and skills to write a novel. It’s challenging for me because I’m better at developing short stories, but some day I plan to finish a novel I’m happy with. Hopefully you’ll pursue your writing as well. 😉

Also, I understand about being shorter. At barely 5’1, I always wish I was just a little taller!

    • I started gymnastics when I was in first grade and quite near the end of fourth grade.

Good luck with your writing! I’ve found that I’m intrinsically motivated which makes actually starting more difficult for me than the execution of it.

Hopefully one day we’ll both be able to finish a novel. I recall in eighth grade I was nominated for “Most Likely to Win Jeopardy” and “Most Likely to Publish a Book”. Hopefully I can make the latter true at least.
